Collagen does everything Glucosamine claims to do (and much more) but in a much more organic way. I recommend 2-3 tablespoons of collagen a day (you also won’t believe how great your skin starts to look – no joke!) Essential for anyone trying to repair a damaged or compromised intestinal lining causing leaky gut.
Bovine collagen is a naturally occurring protein found in the cartilage, bones, and hides of cows. It is rich in glycine- necessary for DNA and RNA stand building. It forms connective tissue, meaning it ‘seals and heals.’ This is extremely important in IBD as the lining of the gut has become permeable due to inflammation, meaning undigested food pass into the blood stream, causing a cascade of auto-immune reactions. Collagen will heal damaged cell walls, infusing it with amino acids. This form is over 90% absorbable compared to 25% from food (bone broth).
